How does a college student stay stress free? For college students that question is an impossible one. These past couple of weeks have made me stressed, anxious, frustrated and sick. I work a part time job (20+ hours with kids), a full-time student with 17 credit hours, a cheerleader and in multiple organizations within my campus. I really had to take a step back and have “ME TIME”. “ME TIME” can be anything that relaxes or entertains you. If I want to have “ME TIME”, I’ll lay in bed all day, ordering in my favorite Chinese food and watching psychological thrillers on Netflix. You define your own “ME TIME”. So here are a list of ways to entertain yourself.

1. Binge watch a new series- Recently I discovered this Spanish series on Netflix called “Cable Girls”. The plot had me glued to the bed all day as I watched the characters change from season one to another. Watch a foreign series and turn on the English commentary! Also, Hulu has all seasons of “Living Single”! Go watch now!

2. Go out and treat yourself- Don’t let romantic movies fool you, aint nothing wrong with going into a mall by yourself, spend some cash on yourself and then dining alone. Just because your alone doesn’t mean your lonely. Some weekends I get dressed and put on makeup and go shopping in multiple stores with my headphones in listening to soothing music or call one of my good girlfriends I haven’t seen in a while to give me good gossip as I splurge on new shoes! Then I would top off the evening with a nice dinner I would take to go.

3. Explore nature- Find a trail or park in your city and enjoy the scenery. Since I’m in Augusta sometimes I will take a drive to Savannah Rapids and watch the water from dam splish and splash for hours. The sounds of nature can be soothing. Plus, this is the perfect opportunity to think and reflect about your problems or situations.

4. Spa Treatment- If you can’t afford a real Spa Day then make one at home. I like to take a hot shower and put on my favorite robe or pajamas. Then I would put on my favorite face mask and bake some cupcakes. There is nothing wrong with having a pajama jam all by yourself.

5. Read or write- If you feel the need to really be calm and relaxed, reading a good book or writing is a good and intellectual way to spend your time. Even catching up on homework is a good way for a college student to not fall behind.

If you like the company and don’t mind inviting people to enjoy your “ME TIME” with you then call them and add them to your plans but make it clear to them that you want to stay positive and drama-free. Assure them that you are there for them if they aren’t having the best time in life right now but at that very moment in time you are trying to be stress free and not interested in having their problems on top of your own.

If you have anyways you stay stress free, please feel free to go onto IG @tluxe95 and tell my what you do for your “ME TIME”!
